As a hybrid style of game, this was the first deck builder with worker placement that I had ever experienced, although it is not the first deck building hybrid I have played. Arnak is for 1-4 players, and features deck building, worker placement and some resource collection. Arnak was published by Czech Games Edition and released in the latter half of 2020. Lost Ruins of Arnak, called Arnak from now on, was designed by married duo Elwen and Min, with art by Jiří Kůs, Ondřej Hrdina, Jakub Politzer, František Sedláček, Milan Vavroň. I could explain that we only had a small window of time to play a game that evening and felt Dune Imperium might be too long, but the truth was, I knew I had Dune Imperium and figured I might as well at least try The Lost Ruins of Arnak. In an interesting twist, I didn't pick up Dune Imperium until after Christmas, and yet someone ended up playing Lost Ruins of Arnak instead. Having already watched 2 complete games played, I knew Dune Imperium was something I would enjoy, and as such, wasn't exactly eager to try another deck builder/worker placement game. Like many, I am a big fan of the Dune IP, both in games, books and movies. I will be honest, I nearly missed Lost Ruins of Arnak this year. The list was compiled based on my Pub Meeple rankings, but I want to give a special shout out to Godspeed, which is a criminally underappreciated new game that seems overlooked in 2020. I will be dedicating an entire blog entry about Dwellings of Eldervale soon, but as you can see from my ranking, it was my top new game of 2020. I will admit to being a bit surprised that I managed to play enough 2020 games to compile a list, but here we are. As mentioned in my last entry, the only games being considered, are those that I have actually played in the year 2020. These two girls aren't just zombies, they're also big fans of pop music idols, evidenced by the glow sticks they carry wherever they go.Moving on with my end of 2020 awards/recognition, we will go to my Top New Games of 2020. This helpful little guy works for Beatrice, and appears throughout the game to assist the main character. She seems to be hiding something, however. Choose what works for your playstyle and make a magic casting character that’s totally your own.
